We live in Anchorage, Alaska and have a site that has a Blog page, podcast page, and many Photos pages for anyone to look at if they like. We grew up in North Dakota so Alaska is fresh and new to us though we have been here a while. We talk just about every day in the blog page and put videos up when we take them of wildlife or landscapes and such and put up photos on a regular basis as that is our new found hobby since we have been here. So take a peak and enjoy. :)

New tribe, Alaskan Naturists

I've just started a tribe for Alaskan Naturists. I've been involved with organized naturism / nudism since the mid-1990s. I was a member of a great club in central California called the Natural Manner Club, which I was able to participate in when I visited California. The Natural Manner Club held one or two events a month, almost always at the home of a member. Folks who had swimming pools (with high fences in their back yards) hosted swimming parties, people with large-screen televisions hosted super bowl / world cup events, and various holidays became general clothing-mostly-optional theme parties (St. Valentine's Day, St. Patty's Day, Halloween, Christmas, etc.). Some people organized day hikes in secluded areas of federal land (there are no federal laws against nudity, as long as it's not "lewd"). One club member was a guide at a cave and once a year he led a clothing-optional (shoes recommended) hike of the caverns.

Living in Anchorage, I'd enjoy finding others who would like to socialize in a clothing-free atmosphere, at least now and then. Looking forward to meeting more like-minded friends. Come join me if you'd like to learn more.

Much of the artic tundra is in jeopardy as warming trends are causing a melt down of much of the permafrost. And of course the Arctic drilling proviso was passed by congress. This is very disappointing.

Where have you travelled to?

I've had the pleasure of travelling to arctic Canada. (And dreaming of arctic Scandinavia :) The furthest I've managed to get so far is 78N, Alexandra Fjord (Ellsemere Island) in August. The 24hr sunlight, sun rotating 360 in the sky, was otherwordly. And tundra flowers...

Share your experiences. What draws you to the north?

I'm from Canada, and I've always been drawn to arctic and alpine tundra. Now that I've moved to California and have discovered deserts for the first time, I now find myself drawn to these landscapes. I find desert to be quite similar to tundra: small-scale yet rich communities, small but old plants adapted to survive harsh climates, insects and animals also well-adapted, and views that go for miles.

http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=mg18725124.500
New Scientist News - Climate warning as Siberia melts

THE world's largest frozen peat bog is melting. An area stretching for a million square kilometres across the permafrost of western Siberia is turning into a mass of shallow lakes as the ground melts, according to Russian researchers just back from the region.

The sudden melting of a bog the size of France and Germany combined could unleash billions of tonnes of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere.

Kirpotin describes an "ecological landslide that is probably irreversible and is undoubtedly connected to climatic warming". He says that the entire western Siberian sub-Arctic region has begun to melt, and this "has all happened in the last three or four years".

Western Siberia has warmed faster than almost anywhere else on the planet, with an increase in average temperatures of some 3 °C in the last 40 years. The warming is believed to be a combination of man-made climate change, a cyclical change in atmospheric circulation known as the Arctic oscillation, plus feedbacks caused by melting ice, which exposes bare ground and ocean. These absorb more solar heat than white ice and snow.
